Last winter was a tough one in Chicago. Cold, real cold, and a huge snow mass on the Great Lakes. In the summer, the neighborhood kids plunge into the cool Lake Michigan water from this pier. It’s about 50-75 feet in length and is at least three feet above the water line. This will give you an idea of just how cold it was and how long it was cold as the ice extended all the way over… approximately 60 miles straight across to Michigan.
